Foundation receives significant legacy gift

The SAKLC Foundation received word this month that the estate of former SAKLC member and former Iowa State Senator Jack Schroeder bequeathed a gift in the amount of $25,000.

Mr. Schroeder lived an amazing life.  He was born in August of 1925.  He and his wife, Virginia, were married for over 68 years.  He worked as butcher, spent time in the Navy Air Corp where he served in the Pacific Theater in the 1940s, graduated from law school, was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, and elected to the Iowa State Senate where he served as Majority Leader.  Not only did Mr. Schroeder serve as President of the Iowa Heart Association, he was on several boards including: Lutheran Hospital and Hawkeye BanCorp.  In his spare time, he was a member at Masonic Lodge, Sarasota Yacht Club, and Longboat Key Club.  After retiring from law, he worked in the insurance industry in various roles.  Jack and Virginia had two children, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

This most generous gift will go toward continuing the ministry of the Foundation, which seeks to provide grants that are ministerial and transformational in nature.  If you are considering including SAKLC Foundation in your estate planning, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Chairman Bill Buttaggi or Pastor Ken Blyth.
